Winning Experience at Electric Mansion!

Last weekend saw the long awaited arrival of the of Electric Mansion a party that promised to rate up there with the international party scene. As all ways MyCityByNight made sure our fans not only got the full “who, what, where, when” but also ran a competition giving away two sets of Diamond tickets! At the event we got to have a good jam with Maureen Anderson – one of the lucky draw winners! Maureen did well and sent me her review of Electric Mansion. MyCityByNight really enjoyed the read and thought we should share it with you all  

Electric Mansion review - by Maureen Anderson…

“So I decided do a write up for one of the biggest HYPED UP events of the year, none other than Electric Mansion. Let me start off by saying the Gallagher Estates venue that they chose was more than adequate as far as seating arrangements, different sections go. I was expecting more as far as decor goes, seeing as EM posted videos of Sensation White parties held overseas. I thought they were giving us a taste of what was to come. So in actual fact they could have done more with decor, very disappointing not to have any lazer displays also, but the pyrotehnics were top class and there was plenty of eye candy in the form of dancers, models and acrobatics. I was lucky enough to win 2 diamond tickets to the event through MyCityByNight and even met up with the crew at the event. I was invited by this crew to sit in on an interview with Sander van Doorn. I was mega excited about that one and thought up a few comments to send his way:-

“Sander, firstly congratulations on hitting the number 12 spot on the Top 100 DJ List. Quite frankly, though, I think you should rather be sitting in the top 5 of that list! The set you played tonight at EM was incredible! I found it fresh, innovative, inspiring and educational. I loved the way you played with so many different music styles and incorporated them all into your set! You created so many massiv build ups to most of your tracks played too! You sent us all into cyber space and awakened the sleeping dragon in all of us! Thank you for gracing our shores with your presence and please come back again real soon! Now that we’ve had a taste of Sander, we are left with the hunger ”

Sadly, I never got to meet the man of the moment, after a brief bathroom visit, I got back to the dancefloor and the crew had left. I think Sander had finished his set and they had to go thru for the interview straight away. So that was a huge dissapointment of the evening for me, seeing as I was so psyched up for it. But anyway you live and learn, no bathroom stops next time!

EM brought out 3 international DJ’s namely Marco V, Sander van Doorn and Sander van Dien of FIRST STATE. All top notch DJ’s that pleased and thrilled the crowd throughout the evening. Our home grown boys made us proud too! Shane Halcon who is making waves overseas at the moment and James Damian, loved and admired by his huge SA fan base!

The non smokers were very pleased to find out this was a non smoking event and there were designated smoking areas for us smokers to make our way too. I think that was a very good idea because so many times you get burnt on the dancefloor and it really isn’t fair to the non smokers to have to breathe in second hand smoke all night long. I was very impressed with the bathrooms. Clean and spotless and 2 ply loo roll, nogal! Normally at big events they supply these big industrial type rolls.

There were 4 sections to the event. General (R 350.00), VIP (R 650.00), Diamond (R 1 500.00) and Platinum (R 19 000.00 per table). General admission exceeded the normal standards. Plenty of seating, gud view of the revolving DJ box, large open spaces to dance and clean and spotless toilets. VIP entitled you to a higher up, blocked off area with your own bar and seating area. Diamond entitled you to a gr8 spread of food and certain free drinks from the bar and slightly more luxury seating, although they could have provided us with more couches! One couch is not enough with the same ppl hogging it all night long. Platinum area was like something you see at a ball, or a grand charity event. Lots and lots of round tables and chairs, I peeked in, but that was all I could see. I must say that both Diamond and Platinum areas were very quiet. We’ve just come out of a recession, so it’s not surprising. There were 2 VIP areas as well. One was smoking and the other was non smoking. 

All in all a gr8 effort put together by the Electric Mansion team. They were extremely interactive and helpful on their facebook page leading up to the event. I think it created a lot of hype and a lot of interest in the event which is a gr8 marketing strategy. We need more “big raves” like this in South Africa and I hope EM are here to stay and continue to bring us top quality parties, with a few issues and problems to iron out, but that’s what first productions are all about. Listening to everyone’s praises and dislikes helps make their next production all that more successful! We have to wait another year for the next production EM puts together. But it will be worth the wait!”
