WIN TICKETS TO THE L’ORMARINS QUEENS PLATE 2013
The Cape’s most prestigious horse racing event and one of South Africa’s most important calendar affairs, the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate will be held at Kenilworth Racecourse, Cape Town on January 12, 2013, with equestrian contenders competing for the R1 million purse and race-goers looking to land best-dressed honours.
It was 1861 when the legendary Queen’s Plate race first thundered on African soil, with a prize of a silver plate and 500 sovereigns donated to the winner by Queen Victoria. The race signalled a meeting of racing excellence, style and grace that has continued unsurpassed in the history of South African horse racing. South Africa’s prestigious weight-for-age race sees the best 16 thoroughbred horses in South Africa accepted according to their merit ratings.
The running of the 2013 L’Ormarins Queens Plate will see a new star born over the classic mile race with 2012 Equus Champion, Variety Club, starting as favourite with likely challenger being 2012 Durban July favourite, Jackson
Sponsored by L’Ormarins since 2005, the Queen’s Plate is also one of the Cape’s acclaimed social gatherings where art and passion are captured not only in equestrian endeavors but also in the ancient winemaking skills displayed in Antonij Rupert Wines as well as a collection of classic, rare Mercedes-Benz cars on display courtesy of the Franschhoek Motor Museum.
An elegance of occasion, meanwhile, is reflected in royal blue & white race day fashions, world-class entertainment and a variety of hospitality & culinary offerings which suggest the perfect place to share good wine with friends, enjoy the races and dance the night away.
An annual highlight is always the late afternoon announcement of the Best Dressed and Best Hat competitions with judging by some of South Africa’s top fashion designers and media personalities.
After the dust has settled, wagers have been won & lost and the sun begins to set over Kenilworth Racecourse, the best of South African DJs – Fresh and the Wedding DJs – take to the stage at the L’Ormarins Style Lounge to play into the night as a fitting end to an eventful day at the races.

Ive been to all the J&B Met races thus far since i was 16 i LOVE Horses and the vibe what you get at a event like this its such a awesome experience to see and just the way the people dress up and the Buzz when the horses are coming to the finish.. aaahh Getting Goosebumps now.

I went to the Quuen’s plate for the first time last year, and it fell on my birthday. This year is takes place on a friend of mine’s birthday and I’d love to take her with me to experience the absolute elegance and fun of the event, and make her birthday as memorable as mine was. It would be such a huge honor to attend the 152nd L’Ormarins Queens Plate. My boyfriend and I have been entering MCBN competitions for over a year now, hopefully this will be the lucky one. My boyfriend has also been working so hard over the past year, and it would be such an amazing treat for him! I’ve heard L’Ormarins Queens Plate is one of the most prestigious racing events, and it would be a dream come true for both of us, if we can attend & experience it. Why would i like to go to the Queen’s Plate? There are numerous reasons, like for starters i missed this amazing event last year ( must have been a lack of judgment on my behalf). Secondly i am quite a fan of champagne, sunshine and horses ( not necessarily in that order) Thirdly, it would be great to have one last big party before “real life” starts again and finally ( and possibly most importantly) i have the perfect blue dress for this occasion; so you see it is meant to be. All jokes aside i would very much like to attend this event and since you have the tickets i would very much like it if you gave them to me, i’ll do you proud i promise.

Beautiful people, stunning venue and amazing athletes – who could ask for more. Best way to end it off is a great party – can’t wait to be there!
A) Everyone loves delicious food and classy drinks especially when B) it’s in a stylish, sunlit atmosphere with C) so many beautiful, famous people trying their darndest not to fall off their high heels into the grass or D) break a nail!

Apart from being a stount horse racing fan..have attended all the racing events in SA..except the LQPs..because when I hear about the event..it has always already passed..That brought so much sadness to be by passed..by such a prastigious & stylish event..It would be hounorable to grace that event for the 1st time..mingle around the socialist of the who & who..& dress to kill on top..and I know I will enjoy every second of that event..please I would love to win those tickets..Thank you
