It’s almost time for the one of the best whisky festivals in the world, the FNB Whisky Live Festival to kick off and I can already feel the excitement and mirth of thousands of whisky lovers as the enjoy some of the best on offer.
The festival tickets are now on sale through Webtickets and on the official website www.whiskylivefestival.co.za.
This year you can expect some of the old favourites like the educational workshops and canape pairing zone. More than 20 000 people are expected to attend the festival, which will be taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 3 October 2012 – 5 October 2012, at the Durban International Convention Centre, 1 November 2012 – 2 November 2012 and at the Sandton Convention Centre from 7 November 2012 – 9 November 2012 (18h00 to 22h00 daily at all venues).
Festival co-founder, Sian Neubert had this to say:
“We’re going to show Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg just how much fun it is to unravel the mystery of whisky in a responsible, and educational way,” says Karen Chaloner, co-founder of the festival. “There’s so much more to the FNB Whisky Live Festival than just tasting whisky, so it’s definitely worth planning your evening’s activities. Get your tickets by booking through Webtickets.”

Definitely very keen to wrap my taste buds around the Penderyn. Pity there isn’t any Van Ryn’s sampling going on, although I suppose after tasting that, nobody would want to taste anything else there..
Does begging for the tickets win me any brownie points?
Im excited to taste ALL the whiskey!
But especially keen for some GlenDronach
Definitely the Three Ships – single malt and Jameson
funnily enough, one of the best whiskey’s I have tasted was a japanese whiskey, whose name I cant remember now sadly. barring that though, chivas regal 18year old I got one year for my birthday was dreamy as can be
Hi
My favorite whiskey is Glenfiddich 15 year old. Love its rich fruity flavour.
I am excited about tasting the Glenmorangie whiskey and the whiskeys not so popular in sa
Kind regards
Well defiantly Bells Special Reserve Malt Whiskey and Chives Regal… But what I’m excited to try at this event is Jameson’s single malt
Bains, cos its local and I hadnt had it in a year
Most def gonna try me some Gentleman’s Jack, ima Bourbon kinda gal.
Well they all so good. But if i had to choose, It would be Rock Hill Farm’s!!
Am so excited to sample the OCTAVE Single-Malt Cask! And to try some of the whisky cocktails!
Xcited about tasting Mr Daniels.. Jack Daniels!
My favourite Whisky is Three Ships, voted worlds best blended whisky and for the first time ever a South African whisky has taken the title of worlds best blended whisky at the annual whisky mazagine’s world whisky awards. What more could one ask for and why love another when our home brew is tops in the universe
Favourite Whisky:
The Balvenie, Double Wood. Over its period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt ~ the traditional casks soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour. Yum!!
Most excited about tasting:
Springbank 15 Yr Single Malt.
I usually drink Grant’s as an affordable option, but the best I’ve had was 21yr old Glenlivet Archive. Lovely stuff.
Interested to try many Whiskys and learn a lot of interesting things.
Probably the tastiest all day drinking whiskey for me is johnny walker GOLD label, so smooth, for me its almost a energy drink. fantastic stuff. also the oban 12 is GREAT
Very keen on tasting Bunnahabhain – still can’t pronounce it. I think it was at the festival last year but I never got 2 taste it. Love the name, very gaelic, and as a whisky lover I can’t wait to try it. Also would love to know what the FNB special bottling of the 19 year old The GlenDronach will cost. I’d love to add it to my small collection
It is hard to pin down a favourite but Ardbeg Supernova knocks my socks off, Octomore and Bunnahabhain 18 year old.
I’m most excited to taste the BenRiach Curiositas (avalanche of peat) and the Pedro Ximinez (I want to see how that sherry cask comes in with all that fruit). I want to sample the Glenfidditch (would love the 40 year, only 600 bottles and 96 on Jim Murray’s watch) and I will hopefully end the night with a deeply peaty, smoky bonfire of a whisky; the Peat Monster, another favourite of mine. As you can see, I’ve done all my research!
Considering I’ve only wrapped my lips around ol cheapo’s this year, I’d like to taste everything.
However I have my eye on Compass Boxes Flaming Heart (Plus its 48.9%)
See youi there
The favorite one at the moment is Bushmills (original), but would like to taste the local “Knights” and the Scottish “The Whisky Exchange Isle of Jura”
I am so excited I could squeal…..really
