Who remembers the Mother Raves? Well the Mother is back in 2012

I remember back in the day when the Mother Raves were the be all and end all of South African live dance music… There were ekkies, there were glowsticks, there were backrubs. Following months of speculation, MOTHER Entertainment has confirmed that it will be making a rather spectacular return to South Africa this December. Two massive events have been confirmed for Friday, 7 December in Cape Town and Saturday, 8 December in Johannesburg – to signal the genesis of a new era for MOTHER, one of South Africa’s most prolific and revolutionary dance brands.

MOTHER creator, producer and promoter extraordinaire, Peter White yesterday lifted the veil on this respected matriarch’s return to our shores:

“It is with much pride and joy that I make the formal and official announcement that, after a hiatus of 11 years, the biggest and most cutting-edge dance brand in South African history is making a comeback! Stand by – brace yourself; ‘MOTHER Returns’ is happening in December, featuring a top league international DJ along with SA’s best local talent for an event produced on an unprecedented scale!”

The Mother brand was well known in dance music for putting together impressive dance events on the level associated with rock star stadium concerts only – up to the brand’s original launch in 1996. This super-brand attracted crowds in excess of 20 000 and beyond in unusual venues such as the Johannesburg Park Station, NASREC, Nu World Studios, the Electric Workshop and other iconic venues across South Africa.  International superstar DJ talents such as the late Tony De Vit (now deceased), Alan Thomson, Fergie, Pete Tong, Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Carl Cox, Sasha and John Digweed, amongst many others – headlined MOTHER events for memorable experiences which reset the border posts for live events at the start of the 21^st century.

I for one am rather happy they’re back and can’t wait to see who they have in store for the end of the year.
