Trailerpark on top of the Grand Daddy Hotel CT
Last Thursday I was invited to what turned out to be an absolutely awesome premiere of the BANFF extreme mountain activity festival which I’ll get into in another post to come- it was gnarly. The event was housed at a rooftop cinema of the Grand Daddy Hotel in Long Street Cape Town, in amongst several luxury themed trailers (I know- oxymoron right?).
I was lucky enough to be one of the media attendees that won a one night stay in one of these themed trailers redemable for that night only (thanks Cape Union Mart & Traffic Integrated). Stoked with life- I proceeded to make arrangements for my toothbrush and whatever else I’d need to make the stay more comfy/enjoyable and eventually settled into the Ballad of John and Yoko trailer (with the biggest bed and shower)- what??!!! haha.
It was truely mystical as the inside of the trailer was filled with a guitar, old school record player, drawings and books. Oh and there was a mini-bar of course (I killed that shit!).
It truely is an experience like no other- you really do feel transported into some strange USA hickville, Britney Spears spawning town and thus act accordingly… or maybe that was just me. They really do go out of their way to stick to the theme throughout the trailer- even right down to the bathrooms. Personally I thought these little touches are what made the Airstream Penthouse trailer park pretty awesome.

Each of the Grand Daddy’s Airstream Penthouse Trailers is fully air-conditioned with modern plumbing, electricity, ensuite shower and toilet. They are cleverly kitted out, luxurious and comfortable.
The Airstream were handed over to an artist or designer, in order to reinvent them as a collection of creative and conceptual moving rooms.

Pleasantville – A real trip into the sixties with Louis L’Amour novels and plenty of Formica.
Goldilocks and the Three Bears – A continuation of the fairy-tale (there are three of everything) with a naughty subliminal theme (adult-sized Goldilocks and Bear suits).
Love of Lace – A romantic, sensual romp in velvets and silks
Dorothy – a dove-blue fantasy world literally covered in dots.
Afro-Funk – celebrates Africa with a sexy African interior inspired by the very street below and the African skyline and iconic mountain just outside the door.
