The Premier League is BACK in full swing.
This weekend saw the start of the Barclays English Premier League, the best football in the world. I was blessed enough to see Chelsea destroy West Brom in our opening game 6 – 0, with an impressive hat-trick from Didier Drogba. I was away for most of the weekend so I didn’t get to see as much footy I was would have liked to but I saw all the bigger games that included Tottenham and a very strong looking Manchester City, Chelsea and West Brom and then yesterday evening Arsenal and Liverpool (which I predicted would end in a draw). Manchester United will be up against recently premoted Newcastle United tonight for some Monday Night Football. Oh yes, Monday, Wednesday Saturday and Sunday… its going to be football, football… FOOTBALL!
With the close of the transfer window looming closer and closer, I wonder if we will see any more big names moving around before the season kicks into full swing. Chelsea’s most recent signing came in the form of Ramirez. On the Tuesday last week, the 22 year old Brazilian from Benfica signed the dotted lined and is now fully part of the Chelsea squad after passing the fitness tests. I am looking forward to seeing what he can do. I have heard he is an all round midfield player but lets see how his first season in the Premiership goes.
Last night saw the biggest game of the weekend, Arsenal against Liverpool. It is always going to be massive when these two teams meet up against each other. I predicted and hoped for a draw between these two as I dont want any of the bigger teams getting off to a good start this season. It wasn’t the best of games but it great to see some of the players back in action and showing off their skills. I did feel that Joe Cole was a little hard done by with the red card but there is nothing he can but appeal it now against his three match ban. The title is any bodies this year, but we all know Chelsea will be going out of their way to secure the League title again this year. I feel that this could be between 6 of the following teams in a race for the top four spots - Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham. They are all looking extremely strong and all have the potential to make it into the top 4 sides for the Champions League. Tonight will be the match between Manchester United and Newcastle United (who I have a deep love for since a young age) and obviously for Ricky’s sake I hope Newcastle win. It would be a lovely little birthday present for the man, so on that note:
