The Hot or Not for H2O from MCBN…

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

You  might be wondering why it has taken us so long provide a review of the H2O party. Well, this is largely due the three things:

  1. The party slammed our eardrums and left us without legs for the whole of Sunday (and part of Monday). So we only starting brainstorming on Tuesday
  2. It HAS actually taken us a week to rack up all the memories form the party….
  3. The post got lost somehow (probably due to the brain numbing after the wild party, and was just found in the vaults… my bad)

A first note before we start talking about the party, and you may not believe this given how long we’ve been here, but this would mark Hidro and Von Lurie’s first venture into an H2O party. So the Jozi team was walking in quite fresh-faced to the whole vibe. We really didn’t know what to expect. Hell, Hidro wasn’t even sure he would last 10 hours on the lash in the sun.

We arrived at H2O at 13:00, which was largely due to the traffic coming from all corners of Johannesburg being wedged onto the lone road that would lead us to the party. Not that it made much of a difference; we could hear the bassline resonating from way outside of the venue. This was clearly going to blow our usual cheeky afternoon drinks in Parkhurst straight out of the water!

Once we had arrived, we realised that the dress code of wearing white was heavily enforced by the event organisers: we watched as they turned away people not wearing any white. Serious business, this H2O is. We weren’t complaining as the sight of a sea of mooiness dressed in white was quite an experience!

Having arrived just in time to see the latter half of DJ Fresh’s set, we were left in delirium to the synchronous beat that had people kicking out and going ape in pools, on the grass, and even nodding heads furiously at the bar. And with DJ Anthea, Pacha Ibiza’s Sarah Main and Dean Fuel lining up on the Main Stage for the afternoon, it was difficult to step away to one of the 4 four other floors.

But the dance floors covered most of the preferences of the excitable crews attending. Coupled with the wicked venue and pretty much every DJ put on a performance to remember, H2O was up there with one of the better parties we’ve been to in a while. Catering for a huge crowd the Dj’s pulled off (with a little bit of a commercial sound) some hot sets that got the crowds pointing index fingers in the air and jamming hard. We also had the pleasure of having a chat to Sarah Main just after her set (interview up already), which was an eye opener to a very cultured standard of Pacha DJs (what an awesome chick, and quite a mooiness).

If there is one gripe, it’s that there needs to be more/bigger bars, maybe even a bar on the edge of the wave pool.  With a 20 minute wait, even at the VIP bar, for a double set of tequila and a double-rum-and-coke will deny the partygoers their solid session on the dance floor (the body probably enjoyed the breather). But that is a complaint that you might have about most outdoor parties, so it isn’t really a big issue. It also signifies the magnitude of the party considering the amount of people that go to H2O.

In conclusion, does MCBN think that the October H20 was a success? Indeed it was. In fact, it was beyond a success! Would we recommend the party to our Jozi audience? Well, we wouldn’t just recommend it, we expect you to experience this twice a year for the next decade! Which leads us to our final comment, which is that MCBN will DEFINITELY be at the front of the crowd, jamming till we become decrepit come H2O early 2011!

And party, and party, and party, and party…….. BOOM!
