Street Cred (STR.CRD.) event at Cape Town Station

At MyCityByNight, we are always – trying to be… eh wait no thats not right- um, being original. Hence our absolutely ridiculous obsession with always wearing the freshest pair of kicks that compliment our mood on the day, right down to the smidgen of colour lightly splashed across the back heel. You can just imagine our delight when the rather friendly folk over at adidas Originals gave us a tinkle (sheez, who says that) to let us know about this ultra cool event that they were involved in.

The event is called- STR.CRD (Street Cred) and it is pretty much a convention of cool as far as amazing sneakers and related street-wear culture merchandise goes. International sneaker icon and music industry heavy-weight DJ Bobbito Garcia aka Cool Bob Love (yes- that’s right- you better respect a man hard enough to go with that as a nickname) has been flown down along with the ridiculously talented and freakishly methodical customisers Alex Nash and Shuchef to make it rain with once off-kicks worth huge $$$ to promote and elevate SA Street Culture. As if that wasnt enough to get you out to this event the organisers have made sure we’re all entertained by mini-exhibits featuring Sneakers, StreetWear, Music, B-Boys and Skaters.

STR.CRD was initially inspired by International sneaker swop conventions and as such, the event will not only feature that component, but also live acts, customized sneaker exhibitions and a pop up retail village. And one of the coolest bits for me as a huuuuge fan of SA Street Culture is that the event is going to be held in the newly renovated Cape Town station- oooohhh so underground- what!?.

• DATE: FRIDAY 24 SEPTEMBER – HERITAGE DAY. OPENS AT MIDDAY AND RUNS UNTIL 1 AM ON SATURDAY MORNING
• VENUE: THE NEWLY RENOVATED METRORAIL CAPE TOWN STATION

EVENT COMPONENTS:
• KICK.SWAP.MEET – SOUTH AFRICA’S FIRST SNEAKER SWOP
• KICK.BIN – SOLE MOVEMENT
• RETAIL POP UP VILLAGE AND EXHIBITION SPACE
• MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT STAGE – DJ’S AND LIVE ACTS
• MC’S – SIYABONGA ‘ SCOOP’ NGWEKAZI (VUZU) AND LUNGELO ‘LUNGSTA’ RADU (CHANNEL O)

Times: 12:00pm -01:00am

I think I’m going to have to grab the sickest pair of white adidas Originals I can find and then get one of these awesome customisers to do some creatively astounding and utterly insane MyCityByNight design on it, wear them once and probably frame them forever after. Yup no chance of me giving those to you… SORRY. But then again- it doesnt hurt to ask the powers that be for a pair for you… hmm now THAT would be original.
