Nick Matthews
Nick Matthews has been a professional DJ and producer for over the last decade of South African electronic music. His experience and diversity has taken him to many different audiences around the world and his work has been widely acclaimed in spheres of the local music industry. Nick has also carved a niche for himself in a very specialised sphere of live performance where he combines his production with musicians and live acts
Many of his early productions were released through the group Iridium Project which he helped start in 2001. The group was nominated for a SAMA award for best dance album in 2008 and released no fewer than 3 singles that reached the number 1 position on the audience voted 5fm High Five @ 5 chart. Later on in 2005 he joined the contemporary African classical outfit called CODA and was an integral influence in the writing and production of their first two albums. At the same time he started experimenting with improvisation and formed the free jazz outfit, The Magic Carpet Ride, which would later join forces with his friend Crag Da Sousa. Most recently he has turned his attention to the band Gazelle that has risen to recent notoriety in the local and European music circuits with a uniquely entertaining and controversial stage performance.
Nick has also recently been endorsed by both Ableton and Native Instruments and is currently working with both these software giants to create his new works.
