Mum-z’ Birthday Comedy Show

Funny Bones Comedy Nights occur every Tuesday at the Purple Turtle, however Tuesday 17th August is a very special Tuesday as it is the birthday of Funny Bones co-founder and comedian – Mum-z and the day will mark 6 months of fantastic comedy nights at the Purple Turtle since Funny Bone’s inception in February this year. A really special line-up has been put together for…… this evening including a debut performance from our headliner Dave Newton.

The host for the evening will be Dugald Pieterse, whose natural comic timing, warm stage personality and humorous charm makes him the perfect adhesive that will hold together a line-up featuring Peter Sserwanga, Carl Weber and Siv Ngesi.

The open spots consist of Peter Sserwanga, who is new to the comedy industry but has great material. He began his comedy in Port Elizabeth but has moved to Cape Town and has since performed at Purple Turtle and Obz Theatre. Lazola Gola, brother of Loyiso Gola will also be performing an open spot. It will be his debut performance at Purple Turtle.

Support acts include: Carl Weber, who is an energetic Cape Town comic who has performed all over Cape Town and has been pleasing audiences from Jokers Comedy Club in Athlone to Zula Bar in the CBD; and Siv Ngesi, who recently performed his debut one-man show, “DEKAF” which he took to this year’s Grahamstown Festival. His amazing stage presense and flipside content makes him a dynamic Cape Town comic.

Our headliner, Dave Newton, will be performing his debut performance at the Purple Turtle. He was the winner of the National Arts Festival award for ‘Best Stand-up Comedian’ 2009, SA Comedy Awards ‘Stand-up Comic Of The Year 2007’ nominee and Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards ‘Best Performance’ nominee.
He made his ‘One-Man Show’ debut in 2005 with his self-written, produced & directed show: ‘Defending the Laid Man’- for which he earned 2 Fleur Du Cap Theatre Award nominations.
