Monster Inspiration Headphones Review (& your chance to WIN)

I’m an absolutely massive audiophile and music lover, which is why I find it paramount to treat my ears to the best possible experience when it comes to listening to music. I recently came out of a bit of a phase, where I went through about 3 sets of earphones over a 2 month period, abusing my ears with super tinny music and sub-par music-listening in the process. That’s why when I got a pair of Monster Inspiration headphones to test drive, the audio brand with the scary name got me a little bit intrigued.
To be honest I had never heard of Monster as an audio brand before getting these headphones, but after I did some digging it seems that they’re globally recognised for being badasses in the delivery of amazing audio experiences. The attention to detail in creating an amazing audio experience really begins with the packaging that Inspiration headphones come in – clean lines, a magnet strip to keep the box closed and no unnecessary bits of plastic. The headphones themselves come in a sleek case (think along the lines of a sunglasses case) that makes transportation easy.
They are designed for use with smaller devices likes ipods, ipads and the like, providing quality sound without the need for amplification. From the moment you put them on and they hug your ears with their soft cushioning you know you’re in for something special. The sound-deadening works wonders and you literally wouldn’t even be able to hear Fran Dresher from The Nanny if she was screaming right into your ears while you had these on. Then there’s the actual sound quality, which is leagues above everything I’ve tried with similar spec sheets. I tried listening to everything from electro to rock, just to be amazed at how well these bad boys dealt with bass heavy stuff along with the more treble and mids based music in my playlists.
No doubt about it, this is a serious bit of kit and a necessity for anyone who takes listening to music seriously.
Durability - The headphones themselves are fairly durable, but I wouldn’t drop them on the hard floor too often. I’m super clumsy and while walking to my car I managed to drop them on concrete- luckily, they were in the protective foam padded touring case that comes standard with the Monster Inspiration headphones and were kept safe. I don’t see these headphones breaking from overuse, which is a good thing considering how many of my previous headphone and earphones.
Design - Monster has gone out of their way to make sure you don’t look like a total dweeb when listening to your tunes in the company of co-workers. The headpieces fold neatly into the headband to save on space, which is something I haven’t yet seen in similar products on the market. Every time you click them into place, it feels like you’re about to start a space mission, or something equally as epic. They’ve even gone so far as giving you the ability to change the headband to something a bit more colourful should the mood strike you. As an extra little touch, the headphones themselves (the bits that go over your ears) are square, which is pretty rad – any self respecting design freak would approve.
Sound - Impeccable. I can honestly say that the sound quality from this is really right up there with, if not better than most of the well known brands that you’d use to navigate a dj set in a noisy club environment. You could literally listen to all the music you had on the lowest volume setting (like 1 white bar) and still hear the intricate parts of brilliantly produced musical works of art. Of course, that’s no fun… so yeah… pump it!
Positives- The design is sleek and features everything you want in headphones in terms of look and feel. The sound is also really great – crystal clear with great depth.
Negatives - The connection between the headphones and the lead that plugs into your device is sometimes a little bit sensitive (in my case this was only present in one of the leads), sometimes taking a bit of wiggling to get the headphones receiving all of the sound input needed to blast it. Considering the retail price of R3999.99 it would be nice if they came with a jack that would make it possible to use for dj-ing on a club mixer, but I’m really nit-picking here.
They’re available from MUSICA outlets countrywide, as well being at the #CTEMF all weekend. If you’re keen to find out a little bit more you can pop down to their stall at the #CTEMF anytime to take a pair for a test drive and win some other amazing prizes. Speaking of winning stuff, we’ve got something rather special up our sleeve for you from the kind peeps at Monster.

Sibot was the shizz!!
Behr & Mey was one of the most refreshingly new sounds with such an awesome vibe. Just something completely new and producing live!!
Ready D – cause I am old school like that
There was a lot of kick-ass music there… Mr Sakitumi, Fletcher, Haezer, Felix LaBand… but I have to admit that for me, Regan brought the house down:-)
Also, I’m currently listening to PH Fat on R10 headphones from a chinese shop with only one ear working. Li’l help with that?
Black Coffee was unbelievable.
I have never seen anyone use a mixer like he did. Blew my mind away and quickly became my favourite local DJ.
Saved up to fly down to CT for this one and WHAT a show it was
But the performance that Defiantly blew me away must go to Haezer, Touring overseas has pushed this guy to levels I don’t know alot of SA artists are at ! !
Haezer was definitely my fave! Been following for ages and he is improving with each set.. How I would freakin’ love a pair of these headphones!!! =)
Sibot, Lark
Terrence Pearce absolutely killed it!
Kept the bar well raised, even saw Black Coffee sweat and crack a nervous smile.
