Luxlife Red Carpet Fashion Show| Review
The Luxlife Red Carpet Fashion was something that MyCityByNight had been looking forward to for quite some time. Finally, Friday night came and I met up with Kreg. After we had a drink or two we both decided that a matching leather jacket combo would be the best bet for the night- Kreg wearing the Royal Vendetta MyCityByNight tee, while I went more traditional with a white shirt skinny black tie ensemble (yes, finally I get to use that word).
We arrived at the absolutely stunning 15 on Orange Hotel- one of the true gems in the Protea Hotels Group and were greeted by the ever friendly hotel staff. Within minutes we made our way up to the main floor in the swankiest elevator I’ve ever been in to meet up with the winners of the MCBN competition. After sharing a laugh and a squeeze with the winners we made our way into the event.
Literally as we arrived, we were greeted by Aimee from Red Carpet Concepts who made sure that we got the necessary press accreditation and awesome goodie bags. Being the inquisitive bunch that we are, we had a quick look through the goodie bag to find everything from model-friendly (like zero calories) Katjies sweeties and Wasabi flavoured nuts to vouchers from a host of the evenings sponsors- ensuring that even after leaving the event we wouldn’t be short on glam. Apparently, the mooiness got a completely different selection of goodies tailored to the fairer sex’s needs, which was quite a nice touch considering that they wouldn’t really know what to do with a back, crack and sack wax voucher.
The venue was absolutely stunning and was decked out in Red and White, making it feel like an event worthy of all of the excitement leading up to it. As we walked through 15 on Orange, taking in all of the sights and sounds we bumped into our good mate from SABC 3’s Expresso Show, Katlego Maboe and somehow found ourselves on the Red Carpet with about 14 photographers snapping away at three of the coolest guys in town. For that brief instant, Kreg and I felt way famous
After sufficient time spent mingling with the who’s who of the Cape Town nightlife and design scene, we were escorted to our front row seats where we enjoyed a variety of intricate and unbelievably creative offerings from a variety of South Africa’s most prolific designers, including Philosophy, Stefania Morland and Jagadi Couture. These Winter collections were at times some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and it was an absolute pleasure to experience the designs up-close and personal. I feel like I have to also mention the choice of models for the event, as everyone barring one guy with a bit of a strange walk, were well suited to the brands on display. Kreg at several moments during the show leaned over to me to dedicate his new found love for model after model, not to mention the reaction he had when he saw twin mooiness on the runway rocking some heat threads.
The guy’s fashion on the night was practical with a touch of flair (much like us), which is always good to see as often some of the designs are so over the top that we could never dream of wearing them and keeping our street cred in tact.
The prizes given away on the night were quite simply some of the most awesome ever with Red Carpet giving away two weekend-away holidays for two lucky couples at Esiweni Lodge in the Big 5 Nambiti Game Reserve, KZN Midlands amongst others. R30 of each ticket sold was also donated to The Animal Rescue Organisation (ARO)- which was a really nice touch for our more furry friends out there.
The MC on the night was Aidan Bennetts and he had the un-enviable task of making sure that everyone knew about each collection and what was coming up next in front of a collection of hyper-critical fashionistas. After the show had concluded, I managed to catch up with Aidan, who was in need of a well-deserved drink- keep your eye out for that interview coming soon- what a cool guy.
We continued to get our drink and eat on, while Dj Lady M from Digital Divas was slamming some filthy tunes and well kept well nourished with canapés and hydrated by Pongracz, Bisquit and Nederburg wines as well as some absolutely killer cognac from our buddy for the night William. Quite frankly, this dude rocked- we had more than enough cognac and cigars to make anybody feel like a million bucks.
Jade Allen, the beauty and brains behind the event, far surpassed our expectations and we can honestly say that The Luxlife Red Carpet Fashion Show 2011 was the best fashion show we’ve EVER been to- Cape Town Fashion Week shows included. It really is a testament to what some solid organization and flawless PR can do for an event. A really big thanks to Jade and all involved! We’ll be back at her next event, without a doubt! :)
