Deliciously eclectic and decidedly open-minded, Two Sides of the Beat is Kid Fonque’s monthly night at Kitcheners. This is a night where dubstep and house rubs shoulders with hip hop, broken beat and everything in between. Kid Fonque handpicks the line-up which promises to be a lot like the Kid himself: genre-defying and unpredictable but always captivating and on-point.
London native and now part-time Johannesburg resident, Warm Days label head QB Smith—DJ, producer and songwriter, has been DJing for twenty years and producing almost as long. Somewhere in the middle he graduated from University with a degree in Sound Design before going on to launch the Warm Days label and artist collective with a collaboration with broken beat and future-jazz pioneer MdCL aka Mark de Clive Lowe.
Since then QB has been working with and remixing people like Atjazz, Simbad and Brian Temba, Monique Bingham, 60 Hertz and Ralf Gum, and now Mi Casa— receiving especially strong support locally from Vinny da Vinci and Christos for whom QB is a regular guest on Metro FM.
Tha Cutt effortlessly fuses genres, spicing up his sets with spectacular displays of turntablist craftsmanship. Tha Cutt always delivers memorable, technically impeccable sets.
