Myself and Ricky ByNight ended up at the River Club driving range after a long debate about who could drive the ball the furthest, then we bumped into Skragg who had some serious wood and was owning the balls, his long game was terrific and we hadnt even started with the golf! Afterwards we sat down in the bar, wiped the sweat off our brow and got down to some business…..

MCBN: So, You use Rabdom L for your live gigs and I finally found out what Rabdom L stands for, care to tell everyone else…

Skragg: You don’t waste time do you? Its an acronym for something pretty random that I sucked out my thumb when I needed an artist name. Don’t want to elaborate more than that though……

MCBN: You played and still do every now and then with the Legendary Twisted System, how did you guys start and what has happened to South Africas favourite PSY group?

Skragg:Twisted System is myself, Shift and Phyx – we formed this project right at the beginning of this journey, using it as a vehicle to push the crazier edge of nighttime psy – with input from three of us we were able to write tracks quickly aswell as keep the tracks fresh and innovative. We released two albums and many singles as we tried to get the project exposure abroad however with three of us in the group we were not getting the bookings we needed to sustain the project viably. It’s a cutthroat industry this and all of us began focusing more on our respective solo projects. I don’t think you have heard the last of TS though….

MCBN: In terms of your production, you have been pumping out tunes regularly since Sept/Oct last year and with new tunes always being released, you must be working hard in the studio, are there any other projects you may be working on??

Skragg: No at the moment I’m focusing everything I have on RABDOM L – aim to take this project to the next level in the forthcoming years. Also doing a lot of collaborations with artists I like – I find working with other artists keeps me inspired and keeps the music exciting.

MCBN: So you’ve made people scream, girls faint and partygoers make savage faces in a variety of different spots all over the globe. Where is the best party the wind has blown you and why?

Skragg: WOW this is a very difficult question to answer because I’ve been lucky enough to experience so many awesome moments with all you nutters out there. Despite that I would have to say my best ever set was at the 2002 Solar Eclipse Festival in the Kruger Park. Vortex, Alien Safari and Etnicanet threw the most amazing event in the middle of nowhere where. Myself and Phyx were given 4 hours from late in the afternoon to early evening, back to back, 4th or 5th day of the party. What happened that day was truly mystical experience for me, connecting on so many levels with such a diverse crowd. By the end of our set the dancefloor was frothing at the mouth prompting all the big names in trance like Dino Psaris and GMS etc to try and hijack the decks after us because now the floor was popping and they wanted in on the action. In fact I’ve travelled to various places around the world where people have come up to me to talk about that set.

MCBN: As one of the most respected DJs on our dark continent you must get sent more tunes then Facebook Friend Requests, What are your top 3 tracks in you dig playing at the moment?

Skragg: I wish brutha – it always feels like there are so many tunes out there I don’t have. I’m lucky enough to know a lot of producers and that’s where I get most of the music I play in my DJ set. If you make music they want then you’ll get theirs and obviously it gives you an edge when you can drop exclusive quality material. Unreleased doesn’t mean not good enough, it means its red hot off the press and hasn’t been made available to the masses yet. My top three tracks right now are Rabdom L vs Cybernetix – Daywalker, Rabdom L – Braindead and Rabdom L vs Deliriant – Torque.

MCBN: Growing up as part of Cape Town’s PSY parties, have they changed for you at all, what do you think about the scene at the moment, the amount of International DJ’s flowing onto our shores is incredible?

Skragg: Yeah the parties have changed a lot since the early days. Firstly from a musical standpoint, we’ve seen the emergence of a digital era in the last few years whereas in the early days the music was restricted to powerful analogue platforms. Technology has advanced enabling musicians to access new realms of sound production and processing resulting in what we hear today – huge, full, pumping and massive sound. Then also the crowd has grown and become so diverse – in the early goa-trance era (Mark Allen, Tsuyoshi, Kox Box, X-Dream) we saw mainly hippies and real psykadelik freedom fighters, it was still very underground back then thus not many people had ever been exposed to it. Over the years it has become more and more mainstream in Cape Town. In the beginning there was only two party organizers – Vortex and Alien. Now we have at least 10 and there’s a party every weekend during the summer months – its off the hook! I think that leads me to your next point, with so many parties the respective organizers have to make their party attractive to make people want to attend – duh! Anyway, booking a big name from abroad is one way to do that. So we’re all lucky enough to see the top names in trance all summer long and believe me – they love coming here – who wouldn’t – we really know how to gooi uber gees down here in the south.

MCBN: Being able to play your own music to thousands of crazy and usually twisted fans on the dancefloor must be an awesome feeling, but at the same time, must have led you to see some special things, anything stick out in your mind as the craziest thing you have seen behind the DJ box?

Skragg: Not just one dewd, plenty but I’ll narrow it down to two things. The first was at a NYE Vortex, cant remember which year exactly – anyway I was jamming from 11-1 crossing over into the new year. 15 minutes before the clock struck 12 their was a power cut and everything went black and the sound system kupped om. The crowd went beserk, like Zombie’s just wanting to tear us limb from limb – hurling massive abuse and everyone so trollied and hyped up, thought they were going to storm the box and start biting the machines and shit – Luckily the power was restored 5 minutes prior to midnight and the rest is history. The other amongst so many craze things was getting a strip show virtually on the decks at some dodgy indoor by two hot brazilian lesbian strippers who just decided they couldn’t take it anymore and just had to get it on right there – needless to say no-one objected or did anything to prevent them from expressing themselves.

MCBN: We recently saw you up on stage with Biorythm, that was an awesome set to say the least. Who are your favourite local DJ’s and your favourite international DJ’s at the moment? And if you could play alongside anyone, alive, dead or yet to be born who would it be? PS: Ghandi on flute is not an answer.

Skragg: Nooit I heard Ghandi rocked Cubase bra – or did he use Logic? Yeah Biorythym invited me to join them on stage at the Rezonance 2010 festival – we jammed after the A-Team and was amazing playing on such a sick setup to a massive and charged up crowd. My favourite local DJ is The Jester but I think what you really want to know is who is my favourite local producer?? Well I have a few – firstly Lost and Found is definately my number one – but he is now one of the best in the world and certainly my pick for the worlds best psytrance maker – so powerfull, innovative and massive. Then I really like Biorythym and Rubix Qube, Cybernetix, Deliriant and Pitch Hikers, but the list goes on – Headroom is super phat and Solar Axis is a project I’m watching very closely when it comes to the daytime stuff. Zion Linguist is rocking, Dirty Motion, Frozen Ghost and Hiyarant and the list goes on – we have so many great producers in Cape Town now, certainly one of the highest concentration of quality producers in the world.

MCBN: If one day Jacob Zuma declared Trance illegal and all offenders would be shot on the spot, what music would you turn to?

Skragg: I’d move bra, Trance is a part of me and I couldn’t fathom an existence without it.

MCBN: So youre sitting with Megan Fox in lingerie and she looks over to you and makes an R18 mouth gesture and begins to climb under the DJ table, is this the perfect dream? or is there another famous apple of your eye whose distraction you’d prefer?

Skragg: This is a weird question Dr. Phil. As far as Ms Fox goes – I doubt I’d try and prevent her from doing that

Been good talking with you, thanks to everyone for all the support and great times over the years. Lets keep it going!

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW!

On Sunday 6th December 2009, the highly anticipated US band, THE KILLERS, will be rocking the Val de Vie Wine and Polo Estate in the Paarl/Franschhoek Valley. In keeping with international standards the organisers (BIG Concerts) have invested a great deal of time and effort in order to ensure that both fans and nearby residents enjoys a hassle-free experience. Every conceivable logistical challenge has been considered, from traffic management to the general safety and security of patrons and alleviating actions have been put in place.

In order to facilitate the success of this event, the organisers have appealed for fans attending the event to be especially aware of the traffic challenges that are inevitable when managing an event of this size. In particular fans are advised of the following:
• Sharing of rides (i.e. car-pooling) is encouraged. The more people we have in each car the less pressure there will be on traffic entering and exiting the venue. (and besides it reduces your carbon emissions)
• Fans are advised to arrive at the venue as early as possible in order to prevent pressure on the roads approaching the estate. Gates are scheduled to open at 16:00.
• No concert tickets shall be available for sale at the venue and should fans not have pre-purchased a ticket they are advised not to come through in the hope of securing one;
• The show will be over by 22:30 and the traffic volumes are expected to have eased by midnight;
• Safe and secure parking facilities have been made available on the estate. Clear signage from the approaching arterial roads will be visible indicating the entrance to the parking area. A map detailing the suggested approach routes will be made available online at www.heineken.co.za or www.kfm.co.za.

To ensure that fans have the best experience, please note that the following items are prohibited at the event:

• Cameras
• Cooler boxes
• Food and Refreshments (including soft drinks and alcohol) which will be available for sale inside the festival)
• Weapons
• Illegal Drugs
• Professional recording equipment

As always we love it when you guys come say hello and chat about stuff on the site, your dreams and aspirations and why guys call pink shirts salmon- now that we’ve popped in some pics in our ABOUT section there’s no excuse for you not to!

This week in Cape Town is going to be packed with a series of festivities leading up to the draw for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Starting with the switching on of the city’s World Cup themed festive lights yesterday Cape Town is buzzing with football fever. Some of the events that we can look forward this week are:

Monday 30th November-

The 36.5cm tall solid gold Fifa World Cup Trophy along with Fifa president Sepp Blatter arrives in Cape Town on a specially chartered plane (please say you have nothing to declare and avoid customs, as they wont release that for at least 3 weeks). The VnA waterfront also begins its week long festival leading up to the major event, which in conjunction with Fifa will see a collection of World Cup Soccer balls from past finals being displayed at the waterfront’s entrance. During the course of the week the VnA will also play host to a 5-a-side soccer tournament called Sony Fevapitch with 24 amateur teams registered to compete.

Tuesday 1st December-

Adidas will unveil the world’s largest football jersey at the Clocktower in the waterfront with the public being invited to sign the record-breaking jersey. A host of entertainment will also be provided at the amphitheatre, Paulaner Brauhaus(which MyCityByNight rocked hard last week) and the Market Square.

Wednesday 2nd December-

At 2pm City Mayor Dan Plato will host a VIP reception on Signal Hill where guests will be treated to typically South African entertainment and a spectacular view. Premier Helen Zille will also be holding a shin-dig at her official city residence Leeuwenhof for the Fifa delegates and Mr and Mrs Beckham if they’re not already having lunch with MyCityByNight.

Thursday 3rd December-

The Fifa executive committee is set to convene on Robben Island to have a tour and marvel at our Apartheid penal system (not).

Friday 4th December-

This is the big day which will see the groups for the finals next year decided. Giant screens will be set up in Long Street with the area from Dorp Street down to Buitensingel being converted into a pedestrian only party zone that will see around 15000 people showing up for a good jol. 8:30pm will also see the launch of the new 2010 South Africa World Cup ball and MyCityByNight cant wait to get our hands on one of these to rip up some mad diski skills- we’re planning a little soccer match between us and some of the other local bloggers in the upcoming weeks, but we’ll keep you posted.

So… big week ahead, I certainly cant wait to party it up with all you!!

This week sees the beautiful city of Cape Town welcome the equally gorgeous(in a totally non-gay way) David and Victoria Beckham. David Beckham has been selected by his government to attend the World Cup Draw being held at the CTICC on Friday 4th December in a bid to boost England’s bid for the 2018 Soccer World Cup.

Local exclusive furniture store Wetherleys confirmed that the Beckhams had purchased a collection of furniture for their rented posie at an undisclosed CT location. The soccer star and best free-kick taker alive is reported to be staying with us from today until at least Saturday night so that he’ll be able experience as much of Cape Town as possible before returning to duties at AC Milan, where he is due to complete a loan spell ahead of the start of the American Major Soccer League.

David now becomes the 2nd international soccer star in 2 weeks along with Luis Figo to visit our city and the property market was buzzing with the news that Becks was rumoured to be looking for a more permanent residence in THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY IN THE WORLD.

Its going to be an awesome summer and MyCityByNight cant wait to show all the visiting starlets how to REALLY party. Forget Monte Carlo… THIS IS CAPE TOWN

As you can probably tell by the above photo of a rather mischievous looking group sculpture birds, the Michaelis School of Fine Art now presents the 2009 Graduate Exhibition which will be featuring final year work by the Honours and finishing Masters students, including the likes of Jano January one of our avid blog readers and good mates. Over the past couple of years the annual exhibition has become a highly anticipated event in the Cape Town arts calendar.

Once again this year promises not to disappoint with a diverse and innovative selection of painting, sculpture, new media, print and photographic works from some of the most gifted students at one of the country’s top art schools- if not the top school.

The exhibition opening looks to be a memorable one with an opening address by Riason Naidoo, the Director of the Iziko South African National Gallery. A stunning catalogue will also be available to accompany the work and refreshments will be served.

Curated by Justin Brett

Opening: Wednesday 2 December 2009, 6pm
Closes: Friday 18 December

This weekend MyCityByNight is taking it back to the old school with a pool party in the burbs on Saturday for our man Benny’s birthday, which means that we’ll more than likely ONLY be out and about the town tonight. It also means that we will spend tomorrow sucking in and hoping that no one notices that the six pack abs on our stomach are only drawn on. Anyways…

As always we’d like to give you a quick run down of some of the events happening in Cape Town over the weekend.

Friday 27 November:

Kinky Afro

Ok this party has becoming fairly massive in Cape Town as it only happens every 2-3 months or so. It focusses on music from the nineties when rotary dial telephones and one pants leg rolled up was the norm.
We the band, ‘Wroxeter’, are once again putting on a show at this years Kenilworth Street Festival. This event has been running for a few years and has become quite big, with the entire 2nd Avenue in Kenilworth being blocked off and stalls of all kinds being erected.

We play mostly covers from the 60’s and 70’s with a few more modern song creeping in. So you can expect to hear songs by the Beatles, The Eagles, Crosby Stills and Nash, America, Credence Clearwater Revival, Thin Lizzy, Deep Purple, Jimmy Hendrix and so on…

To those that visited last year, I’m sure you will be happy that the bands name has changed from Tabo and the Mbeki’s. The band mambers have not changed however we now have two more faces. The band is

I see the eyes in the computer screen
Misinformation is surrounding me
It brings me down, I’m on my knees.

I need to get on higher frequencies
I wanna live inside the mystery
I need your silence to hide in the night
To understand and never wonder why

The crowd goes beep beep beep
My phone goes beep beep beep
The world goes beep beep beep
But you go ooh ooh ahh
Ooh ooh ahh

My car goes beep beep beep
The time goes beep beep beep
The world goes beep beep beep
But you go ooh ooh ahh
Ooh ooh ahh

I see a shadow in the datasphere
I feel a change in the atmosphere
I hear the calling and its crystal clear
Time to disengage, to disappear

The jury’s out and the rewards are in
I crunch the numbers and they fell within
The range of danger for a forward mind
A forward body falling out of time

My phone goes beep beep beep

I got an email from one of our readers regarding the article “Land Grabbers in Sea Point” with the correct information. We all got our knickers in a knot a little too quickly without finding out the correct information. What actually happened was that it was a film shoot(still trying to find out which company was behind it), he said that there were apparently trucks, crew, trailers and lighting all set up in the background behind the shacks, which was out of view of any of the pictures we were viewing. He said by the look of the way it was set up it was clearly a film shoot and by the sound of things a disorganized one at that. A few pictures and a misleading heading can cause quite a stir and I’m very glad that one of our readers had seen all of this and came and cleared it up with us.

(Thanks Tony)

We proceeded to ask them a couple of questions about dj-ing, Durban and Patricia Lewis.

MCBN- Grave Danger, that’s a rad name. Other than the threat you guys pose to any sound system with your slamming beats is there a particular story behind the name?

IAN- Well it all started when we thought, ok lets name ourselves something clever, Lets think how do we make other people feel intimidated by us before we even start playing. After about a second of thinking about it, this guy on the T.V said “and im afraid ma’am but all these Kids are in Grave Danger” Bang, Bobs your uncle and before I said anything Malcolm jumped up and said Ok Ian im claiming it, Its Grave Danger, but we know it was a mutual decision.

MALCOLM- Ian and I always wanted to be in a Dj Thing together, we did’nt Know what to call it, Then Bam, Susan’s your auntie, Grave Danger it is. Ian was gonna say it first but I got in there and claimed it! Sorry bro.

MCBN- When we heard you play at Plastic Fantastic the other night, we heard you take it from a sort of mid-beat electro to slamming filth… We even heard you drop a tasty remix of Frank Sinatra’s New York New York (what a tune by the way). How would you describe the style of music that you play?

MALCOLM- We got all different tastes, playing a full dance floor we play Electro, mainly banging basslines and chunky drums, lots of remixes but only the really good ones, there is a lot of crap that is out there, But Jacking Electro House is basically where it could be slotted into.

Ian - Banging Banging Banging Tunes, Stuff that makes you think about adult Nappies.

MCBN- One night while ripping it up at Arcade some time back, we noticed these two DJ’s: Magnum Hi FI and Kid Colt (before Grave Danger came about)… the set was ridiculous and a memory that sticks in our head is of you two going so totally apeshit behind the decks afterwards, that you knocked both Bruce Willis??? and the mixers over with one deft move… Any parties in particular stand out for you as being memorable?

Ian- Oh Ja, completely overboard. That was actually my fault. Um I must say I can’t seem to get Rocking the Daisies 2009 out of my head, That crowd was really Just so big (bigger than anything that we’ve played in front of before) and happy and jumping and going crazy for us, that is why we do this shit, Fukn Making crowds crease!

MALCOLM- hahaha, Funny that, fuk what a bunch of douche’s always something. Well as ian said Rocking the daisies, That is what it is about, I could play in front of crowds like that for the rest of my life.

MCBN- You two are originally from the city of poison, Durban, what made you guys decide to move to Cape Town? (other than the hotter girls of course)

Malcolm- DJing wise it was the only thing to do as far as South Africa is going. Needed to play as much as I could, The only reason that I did come here was to play, Ja, Then I told Ian “You get here now Cause this Place Rocks” he said, “ Ok boetie” I said Cheers, Then Knock Knock, Who’s there?..Its Ian arsehole. WOhooo. Lets fukn tear this place apart. Oki Dokes.

IAN-Mal told me that I must come here, best thing I’ve done, and we get to rock it out together, Playing in Durbs is basically once in a blue moon, only logical to come here and smash some dance floors.

MCBN- We’ve seen you guys get pretty crazy behind the decks before (see above example), being brothers do you ever fight about who gets to play the next track?

IAN- We don’t fight about that its pretty mellow between us when we play, unless one of us is too drunk then you will see us having a go at each other.

Otherwise we brothers, we fight then cry then hug it out then its all good for a couple of months.

Malcolm- No I make sure that we have equal good tracks so I don’t end up telling mom that ian has more than me..

MCBN- What is your favourite track right now? Careful not to let any trade secrets out of course

IAN- FranK Sinatra_New York, you know which one. Im not telling who does the remix.

Malcolm- Fuk I dunno, actually really don’t know, I know its minimal tho.

MCBN- We have seen the meteoric rise of Grave Danger in Cape Town, who has influenced you along the way and which DJ’s do you enjoy listening to in and around CT?

Malcolm- I Dig Dj Lapse, Belushi, Ivan, Niskerone,Haezer, Al john Hyphen, Mix n Blend Lots of them have influeced our vibe. We dig lots of Dj’s.

Ian- Same as Mal.

MCBN- Dj’s normally have fairly good stories to tell about groupies, free alcohol and mini-tigers. What’s the craziest thing that you guys have seen behind the decks?

Ian- Hmm. Not sure, nothing to write home about yet..i have had a full length pee behind the decks at a venue i cant disclose..it was AWESOME!!

Malcolm- My Friend was having a hard time, and he was lying by my feet right where I was playing and was crying and being all sad. Shame, he is much better now. not so crazy…

MCBN- Where can we expect to see Grave Danger play over the next couple of weeks and months?

Ian- Karma, Assembly, Ramfest, Synergy, Chevelle, Stellenbosch, Snow Cat outdoor party, Everywhere and anywhere, we need some gigs in joburg and Poisin city

MCBN- You are dj’s by night, how do you pass the rest of your time?

Ian- I spend it on the computer with my Girlfriend Robynn, With my bro, on the interent, On the beach and in the sea.

Malcolm- I spend most of the time crying about my ex girlfriend, on the Computer, On the internet, in my beautiful car “Esta”. On the beach. Designing crap and making jokes. And always hustling for cash, fuk that is actually what I do all the time

MCBN- Then the question we’ve all really wanted to know the answer to… If Patricia Lewis proposed to either of you, would you accept and walk down the aisle? Remember that she did once go out with the Hoff and it might be difficult to live down having his sloppy seconds by marrying Patricia. On the other hand her hair is quite cool and she’s famous… in South Africa.

Malcolm- Yes Yes Yes, she has money and big boobies.

Ian- Um I dunno, its kinda weird to think about. Okay yes, why not, it would be a good story to tell for the next interview!

Thanks guys, its been an absolute pleasure chatting to you. We hope to see Grave Danger slamming it behind the decks all summer long! DISCO DAMAGE!

Ian & Malcolm- Cool legends. KEEP IT GRAVE.

Now if you mentioned the name Gaz West to any normal electronic music lover, they may shrug their shoulders and say ”eh, never heard of him before”. Its a whole different story if you’ve come up through the party ranks like the boys and girls over at MyCityByNight and have done your time in the dark rooms, listening to repititive music, with white gloves on and a tub of vicks to clear your nostrils in your pocket.

To us, Gaz West better known as Dark By Design offers a hard dance experience that will force you into dancing your socks off while he proceeds to go absolutely beserk behind the decks.

Gaz is a Manchester born dj (which obviously makes him superior to those say born in Liverpool), who shot to fame remixing and releasing tracks on labels like Tidy Trax and performing live at the massive DANCE VALLEY and GATECRASHER events. He is one of the most technical dj’s out there and every single track that he has produced is… well… DARK BY DESIGN.

If you like the harder side of electronic music then this one is definately for you… I know Kreg and I will definately be there, bubblegum anyone? :)

If you haven’t already made up your mind about these two gorgeous girls, wait till you get a load of their delicious sounds! Knowing them on a personal level, they have always had clear intentions as to where they were headed: to rise to the top of the South African DJ scene. They have proven to me and many music fans that they don’t rely on their good looks to get bookings, their music that they pump through speakers at various local venues is what they rely on for their fan base.

For Blush N Bass it continues to be a hero’s journey conducted in their inimitable journey. After i-Can asked Miss Pickett to spin a few tracks with her at a Cape Town Alive party it was only a matter of time that owners of clubs around Cape Town would be booking them into their venues.

Their sound is steeped in an indie electro/electronic tradition stretching back some forty odd years ago. They also play a selection of chilled lounge beats mixed with some funk and classic electronic infused listening music. Think Depeche Mode, The Cure, MGMT, The Futurheads, Miike Snow, DJ Krush, Empire of the Sun, Tosca, Phoenix, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the rest, you’d have to make it to one of their gigs to hear for yourself.

The girls have played at the likes of Assembly, Chevelle, the Bang Bang Club, Ivy League, Waiting Room, they have residency at Baraza every Sunday for sunset and last night was their debut at Fiction where they had the guys and girls on the dance floor squeaking some serious takkie. Candice Heyns and Taryn Pickett, these two girls are up for any challenge to make a dance floor move.

Press/promoter clipping: “i-CAN & MISS PICKETT whom form Blush N Bass have been creating a buzz across the Music scene, these two crazy gorgeous girls really get a dance floor rocking with their awesome indie electro sounds!”

Be sure to check Blush N Bass out this Saturday, 28 November at Saint Eves, which is the new Ignite in Camps Bay. They also will be playing at Bang Bang Club next Friday, 4 December and at the opening of FTV in East London on the Saturday, 5 December.

The Springbok 7’s side are on their way to Dubai for the annual 7 aside tournament. The Springbok’s unveiled their new jersey and I’m kind of accepting it with mixed reactions. It looks a little mix between the Australian and South African cricket jersey, but it still looks pretty cool. As long as they play well I’m happy. Looks like they tie dyed the jersey a little bit, getting hippy on us! Lets hope it gives them the speed they need to defend their title this year.

So I came across this fairly interesting little gadget while I was prowling the net for Mariah Carey videos… I know, who would have thought google would link those two things

Its called the SHE PEE and its aimed at allowing all members of the fairer sex to well experience the benefits of having a willy! haha, well at least some of the benefits. Basically you insert this nifty contraption into your vajayjay whenever you feel the urge/have the need to pee standing up.

This is taken straight off of SHE-PEE’s official website:

She Pee (P-Mate) is a product that allows women to wee standing up without giving anything away…

Do you desperately need the toilet but you can’t find one?

Do you queue for a long time when you find a toilet?

When you get into the cubicle is it so dirty you would rather not bother?

Do you sometimes wish you could go anywhere, like the men do?

Are there times when squatting just doesn’t seem appropriate?

Do you think sitting on a public toilet compromises your personal hygiene?

Do you get uncomfortable trying to hold in your pee while hunting for a clean toilet?

Well!!

She Pee (P-Mate) is your Solution

She Pee (P-Mate) is a portable device small enough to fit in your pocket, purse or bag

Top She Pee Moments

Festivals – when portaloos are too awful to consider sitting on

Camping – when you don’t want to bare your bum in the bush

Queues – you’re caught in line but there’s nowhere to pee without losing your place and your mystique

Pubs, clubs and concerts – when queuing for hours and hovering over the loo may be the only option because the toilet is so gross

Public toilets – when you don’t want to perch your bum where thousands of germs have gone before

On the road – when you can’t wait for the next rest step

Trains, planes and automobiles – when facilities can be too vile to sit on

Travelling – third world toilets can be best avoided

Skiing – don’t get caught short on the piste

Boating – when your choice may be a bucket or a hole

Pregnancy – weak bladders doesn’t have to be a nightmare

And obviously they had to explain how to use one:

Step 1: Undo trousers. Push underwear to one side. Place Shewee securely against body with outlet pipe directed away from body

Step 2: Aim urine to a suitable place – away from feet, into a toilet or a container

Step 3: When finished, pull funnel away, wipe- liquid repellent coating ensures no drips

Step 4: Place reusable Shewee back into resealable container.

Tip! Practise with Shewee in the shower to find the best position for you.

Shewee is washable by hand or machine and can withstand temperatures up to 120°C.

Ok, so what bothered me the most about this whole thing is the top She Pee moments- “Queues – you’re caught in line but there’s nowhere to pee without losing your place and your mystique”

I mean seriously, do you think you’ll be able to have a pee in a line for New Moon tickets without anyone noticing and you not losing your MYSTIQUE???

Anyways, I dont know if this is at all useful to any of the ladyfolk out there… I try…

Its the festive season in Cape Town (gasp, that means xmas shopping for most of us) and along with this comes the switching on of the Adderley Street Festive lights.

This 42nd iteration of this totally Cape Town tradition sees the emphasis being switched to the promotion of the 2010 Soccer World Cup with 12 new soccer-focussed light installs being incorporated into the kaleidoscope of colour on one of our oldest and most famous streets.

The city expects Some 50 000 people to gather in Adderley Street to watch the colour extravaganza of light and sound. Festivities will kick off on November 29 at 16h00 with a star-studded stage concert at the Heerengracht Fountain, featuring local stars including Loyiso, Idols winner Jody Williams, Dr Victor & The Rasta Rebels, Dozi and Die Burger U-tune winner Alfredo Prins.

At MyCityByNight we’re huge fans of our mayor the Zillenator and are pretty stoked that she will be there to flick the switch along with soccer icons including Zakumi the official 2010 mascot (who we dont like so much). In keeping with her unique style of political correctness, our Mayor Helen Zille has also decided to replace the huge Christmas tree at the top end of Adderley Street with an indigenous aloe plant… spread the aloe joy!

Daniel Petersen, a six year-old drumming genius from Kraaifontein, will demonstrate his mad drumming skills and do a special drum roll in the countdown to the switch on. There will also be A 2,000 strong carnival parade which will move from the fountain up to Strand Street and it will include a fire engine with Santa Claus, Cartoon Network characters, dancers, giant puppets, stilt walkers, unicyclists, Simba and a 2010 FIFA World Cup™ host city float.

A special musical tribute to the late Miriam Makeba will also be performed by the SA Youth Choir and will include some of her best known international hits.

The Adderley Street lights will stay up until mid-January 2009 and before any eco jockeys start complaining and Eskom introduces rolling black outs it must be made known that- “The introduction of rope lights two years ago has drastically cut power consumption. We do not foresee a burden on the city’s electricity infrastructure as most industries are closed over the festive season, thus reducing the energy loads,” well at least thats what Charles Kadalie, Manager of the City’s Public Lighting Department says.

From 12:00- 24:00 on 29 November both carriage ways Heerengracht and Adderley will be closed between Bureau Street and Coen Steytler Avenue along with all side streets leading into Adderley so plan your routes if you are going to be in the area.

We’ll be there and will try get some sick photos to put up for all you who just dont feel like dealing with the nause of crowds and crowds of festive revellers.

Ahead of the Mafuta Ink Home for Broken Skateboards silent auction taking place this week MyCityByNight spent some time with two of the featured artists putting their work on show, Khoza and Rist. The day left us feeling rather excited about getting to purchase some of their work and EXTREMELY HIGH from all the spraypaint fumes…

Khoza

At MyCityByNight we are huge fans of your work, where do you draw your inspiration from?

Khoza: African and ancient aztec art has a influence on my stuff now, they have cool faces and patterns. brazilian street art is also a big influence and of course Banksy..

You’re what we like to refer to as “urban artists” meaning that your work can sometimes be seen adorning the sides of trains and buildings throughout the city. What do you think about those that view your brand of art anti-social or even *GASP* anarchist?

Khoza: I think they are just scared of it and don’t understand it they think we are like gangsters or social misfits, but all I wanna do is paint cool pictures that hopefully will make people smile and brighten up some ones boring 9 – 5 day.

As we know its fairly difficult for budding artists to make a living, which is why most of them are either prostitutes or crack dealers, ok not really- do you have a day job other than making sick art pieces?

Khoza: I just graduated from a 3 year course in advertising and art direction so i guess i am just gonna be a slave in some ad agency for a while..

How long have you been painting for?

Khoza: I started painting graffiti in 2001. graffiti helped me a lot with my art, helped me get my eye in and gave me the knowledge was what colours go with each other. I started to do my art stuff and characters in 2004. and now i am just into characters and cool patterns.

Other than the silent auction at the Co-Lab Studio this Thursday from 17:00 till 22:00 where can we go to buy your work?

Khoza: hahaha i wish my art was sold places hopefully this will be my big break…

Thanks for taking the time out to chat to us! Good luck at the auction and for your very bright futures as artists.

Rist

At MyCityByNight we are huge fans of your work, where do you draw your inspiration from?

Rist: All the crazy things that infect my mind while I sleep

You’re what we like to refer to as “urban artists” meaning that your work can sometimes be seen adorning the sides of trains and buildings throughout the city. What do you think about those that view your brand of art anti-social or even *GASP* anarchist?

Rist: No comment

As we know its fairly difficult for budding artists to make a living, which is why most of them are either prostitutes or crack dealers, ok not really- do you have a day job other than making sick art pieces?

Rist: No. I sit at home in my cave and feel sorry for myself.

How long have you been painting for?

Rist: For about 4 years now

Other than the silent auction at the Co-Lab Studio this Thursday from 17:00 till 22:00 where can we go to buy your work

Rist: Shelf life and anywhere else you might see rist around

Thanks for taking the time out to chat to us! Good luck at the auction and for your very bright futures as artists.

I have never been a big fan of Henry, he is an outstanding player and no one can doubt that, but his actions in the world cup qualifier against Ireland are just despicable, disgusting and very unsportsmanlike. His “hand of god” allowed him to cross the ball into the middle of the box and letting his team mate Gallas score. To the amazement of the crowd and EVERY Irish player including keeper Shay Given who had full view of what went down, the referee didn’t question for a second that there was any foul play. All of this controversy has lead Henry to think twice about his international career. I agree with him 100%, he has ruined some of the Irish players dreams and made himself look like an idiot all at the same time.

Henry showing his skills pushing the ball down onto his foot with his hand

Henry allowing himself an easy inside pass to his team mate

French score the equaliser to the shock of the Irish, sending them through to the WC and knocking the Irish out

Shay Givens (and the rest of the Irish team’s) protests are ignored by Martin Hansson.

I feel so sorry for the Irish, they did everything right only to be cheated out of a place in the World Cup final rounds. Thierry Henry should know better then that and after he publicly apologised to the world about what he did, I think he really should think twice about playing another international game. This leads me to the next point, maybe this will make FIFA think twice about using technology to help referee’s out, if that was shown in a replay, all that would have been needed would have been one instant replay and you would have visibly seen the hand ball and the Irish would have gotten a penalty and possibly changed the outcome of the game! The French should have allowed a replayed game if they all knew it was so blatant. Shame on those cheating French bastards.
