The fight card for EFC16 has just been finalised and I’m chomping at the bit to see some of my favourite fighters throw it down in the octagon. All 13 bouts come 19 October are going to be awesome but my eye lands firmly on the three title fights.
The main event of the evening sees heavyweight champion Ruan ‘Fangzz’ Potts attempt to defend his title against Angolan wrecking machine Bernardo ‘Black Panther’ Mikixi. Potts is undefeated and already has one successful title defence under his belt. However, Mikixi has been on a rampage this year with two first round TKO victories, and he promises to bring even more destructive force to his title challenge.
In the welterweight division, champion Jadyson Costa, who I think is a total legend after seeing him come out victorious as new champion, prepares to meet dangerous all-rounder Michiel Opperman. Costa outclassed and dominated three opponents to capture the title, but Opperman has proven his versatile skills by putting together an 8-fight win streak.
Featherweight champion Demarte Pena will attempt his second title defence, this time against former lightweight champion Terrence Griessel. Both are known for their wrestling, but Pena’s submission attempts will meet Griessel’s ground ‘n pound skills in an eagerly anticipated showdown in EFC AFRICA’s lightest weight division.
EFC AFRICA 16, presented by MusclePharm, takes place at the Carnival City Big Top Arena on 19 October.
