The brainchild of Cape Town producer/DJ Das Kapital and his manager Tim Medcraft, Do Work Records was created to push the wealth of talent lying just beneath the surface of the local scene, whilst working with it on a worldwide basis.
The aim of the label is to produce music that artists, friends and fans can be proud of – music that’s as instantly supportable as it is forward-thinking.
Following the All Trades and Free Trades EPs from Das Kapital earlier in 2013, Do Work is set to release its first full-length compilation album, Grindin’, featuring some of the best Electronic Dance Music from both new and existing South African artists across multiple genres.
In September, the label is embarking on a South African tour, playing the Boat Race Festival near Port Elizabeth on 7 September, Arcade Empire in Pretoria on 13 September, Kitcheners in Johannesburg on 14 September and at the inaugural Durban Electronic Festival on 20 September, with Das Kapital and rising talents Leechi and RVWR on the decks.
This Friday, the 16th of August Do Work Records is throwing the first Grindin’ night in conjunction with Red Bull Mobile, Eristoff Vodka and The Assembly’s ‘The Alliance’ collective, serving as a pre-cursor to the tour in September.
Zenzanon, Blitzkrieg, Das Kapital, Leechi and RVWR are all playing as artists with releases due on the forthcoming Grindin’ Compilation, with Hyphen guesting as a member of the extended Do Work family.
Grindin’ at The Assembly also sees the debut live performance from Caitlin, who will be performing her collaboration with Das Kapital, “All Night To Dance”, which was recently released on Universal Music South Africa. If you’re tired of hearing the same pattern-repeating Beatport Top 10 club sets, and want to be a part of the growth of the independent South African electronic scene, your time is now. Let’s Do Work, together.
