Crysis 2 coming soon- The game to beat Call of Duty?!

Post to Twitter Post to Facebook

You’ll remember the amount of fuss that the entire gaming community made about the release of the latest installment of war based first person shooter Call of Duty. Now even more of a hoo-hah is being created around the release of Crysis 2, an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts, due for release on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on March 22, 2011. It is the sequel to the 2007 video game Crysis and looks set to knock Call of Duty off its mantle as the best war-time strategy shooter out there.

The game is absolutely beautiful with all the amazing visuals being pumped out by a world first processing engine called the CryEngine. Crysis 2 is set in New York City in the year 2023 (three years after the events of the first game), which has since been evacuated due to alien infestation. Similar to its predecessor, Crysis 2will provide freedom to customize weaponry and abilities (its freaking amazing, the nanosuit, is quite simply out of this world). The urban atmosphere of the new game when compared to the jungle setting of the last, offers more options in how to progress and plan attacks. Players will be able to navigate between floors and buildings, all the while tearing the cityscape to pieces (that’s right you can blow up EVERYTHING).

Players will play as “Alcatraz”, a Green Beret, the new successor of “Nomad”, from the first game, although there has been speculation that “Alcatraz” may just be Nomad’s new codename to stay anonymous to Crynet. The game’s hero gains ownership of the Nanosuit 2, but in doing so angers the manufacturers – Crynet Systems. As a consequence, Crynet Systems starts a manhunt for the player.

The epic Nanosuit 2 gives players more freedom in their options of how to tackle situations on the battlefield. In a statement from Crytek the game has been described as “catastrophically beautiful” (I dont disagree).

To really mount a challenge to Call of Duty, EA had to ensure that this game had a kickass multiplayer component to it and my oh my how they have succeeded! Crysis multiplayer looks like nothing I’ve seen before and I am more than impressed with the fluidity and gameplay on offer. I’m mad excited about this game and cant wait to get my hands on a copy this March. Tick tock…

I downloaded the Crysis 2 Multiplayer Trial on Xbox and overall, whilst it needs a lot of development yet, it’s a good contender.

With the likes of COD and HALO, it’s definitely entering a market that’s pretty well dominated so there’s gonna be some similarities – like the way you level up / unlock new weapons / get killstreak rewards etc… But the suit in Crysis is the unique factor that makes it a decent contender.

I’ll definitely play it again after a few updates and will probably buy the full version…

    • I guess we just have to wait for the final version… I’m super excited, I’m a huge COD fan but this truely looks like it’ll be able to mount a solid challange!
