Ayrton Senna was regarded as one of the greatest formula one drivers of all time.
Before his untimely death he had 3 Formula 1 world titles. The tradgedy accured in 1994 while leading the San Marina Grand Prix.
Brazil declared 3 days of mourning for the legendary racing driver.

Now it only seems fitting that Ayrton Senna’s life be commemorated with a movie and here is your first chance to check out the trailer.

HOLD UP, is this a epic vuil by Viglietti? You see, there is a small problem, and I didn’t have the heart to tell him (and who would), that they being recalled, as of yesterday, because of a small problem that gives new meaning to the name burning or flaming red… Did Viglietti not get the memo on this?
A Ferrari press release said that the luxury supercar is being recalled in order to make modifications to the wheelhouse assembly.

“In rare instances the heat shield could become deformed, bringing it too close to the exhaust system and igniting,” a Ferrari spokesperson said.

Ferrari is recalling all its 458 Italia vehicles after five fires were reported in California, Switzerland, China and France. However there have been reports of more.
Ferrari said the company is asking owners of the cars produced before July 2010 to bring them in to have the glue replaced with mechanical fasteners. Lets hope this guys didnt slip through the net!

Not going to lie, I would be hesitant to have driven that car home yesterday… Then again ignorance is bliss!

It’s not often MyCityByNight have the strength on a Saturday morning to do a post, but we felt this was very important for all the BMW loving fans out there in MyCityByNight world…
So this is what BMW has just released, a glorious strip tease video for the hotly anticipated 1-Series M Coupe.
This is the first “unveiling” video in a series, and we will be sure to show you the rest as we recieve them!

Earlier this month BMW released a video of the 1-Series M Coupe driving around the Ascari race track in Spain, and a few weeks before that released this video.

It was supposed to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January. However the fact that we have this video now, it could be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in late September.

As has been previously speculated, the 1er will have a power house of a M engine that is a twin-turbo N54 inline-six, that will pump out 257kW. It will be exclusively a six-speed manual transmission, which should allow the 1er M to accelerate from 0-100 kph in approximately 4.5 seconds…

OOOOOOOH YES!

Could it be a clever PR move?

When it comes to Top Gear’s The Stig, anything is possible.

So whats the skit then: The BBC is pursuing legal action against the Stig to stop him or her (here is hoping on mooiness) from revealing his or her identity in an autobiography he or she is penning. The British public broadcaster contends that it is part of his work contract to keep his identity secret.

The Stig has been with the show since 2003 and is one of the main main reasons Top Gear is as successful as it is and keeps Top Gear the mystifying show that it is. As you know, and if you don’t, why don’t you, he test drives the cars featured on the show (lucky bugger) and it is his track times with which Top Gear ranks them for lap performance.
Stiggy also gets to train the celebs in the Star in a resonably priced car part of the show… In the ltest season got to show Cameron Diaz a thing or two, not such a kuk job this guy has hey!

His identity is very well guarded and aside from the presenters, Jeremy ‘I Heart Pies’ Clarkson, Richard ‘I’m becomming more and more of a hippy’ Hammond and James ‘I do enjoy my booze’ May, and a few of the BBC’s big shots, no one else knows who he is.

Top Gear and the BBC have been known to mess around with their viewers and the public too when it comes to who the Stig-a-licious is. Last year they pretended to have the Stig remove his helmet on the program only to reveal Michael Schumacher wearing his trademark white race suit.

Some countries fine speeding motorists on the basis of income, and Switzerland just happens to be one of them. Not so cool if you loaded and get caught, like our next littile fellow did…
Last week, police caught a Swedish man in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG doing close to 300 km/h. Yip, time warp type of shit!

“He needed over half a kilometer of road to come to a halt,” according to Benoît Dumas, a local doughnut muncher, as quoted in the Guardian newspaper. We find that brilliant! 300 km/h to zero in 500 meters! WOW! Surprised he still has a face left and his eyes didn’t come flying out his head!

The man claimed the speedometer on the car was broken – yeah we believe you as it does happen to the best of us! After all at that speed, your mind is struggling to keep up with numbers and let’s be honest, not really interested! So yes, he has a point; it was broken in his mind…

The speed freak (and who can blame him in what we consider to be uber car mooiness) ran past several sneaky cameras before being caught. Apparently some of the older radar models were not capable of clocking a car going over 200 km/h – hahahaha! When he went past one with new technology, he was photographed and clocked at around 290 km/h. AWESOME! Granted not if you him.

So new technology, big wank! Well massive wank actually, because this technology now allows for the picture and speed to be sent to the police immediately, who then dispatch a fun ruining police car to pull you over. (See some of the perks of living in the 3rd world are that we dont have that sort of shit… Yet!)

The 37-year old driver was arrested and later released. Bet he couldn’t believe his luck, until they mentioned that the fine he faces is a whopping, retarded, mental, mal befockda R6 million… yes, R6 million! OH MY SACK! Thats twice the price of the car in a fine! What the hell does he earn if its based on salary!

So here it sits impounded! Cue sad face

“We have no record of anyone being caught traveling faster in the country,” a police spokesman is also quoted in the Guardian story. Well no shit, because MyCityByNight would’ve heard about it!

The Swiss authorities also said that there is a myth in Scandinavia (full of mega mooiness may we add) that all German-speaking countries (like Constantia and Camps Bay), including Switzerland and Austria, have no speed limits on their autobahns… Which clearly is not the case.
In Germany however, you can floor the hell out of whatever mulit-million euro, rand, dollar or pound bat mobile you have on certain stretches of infamous autobahn where there is NO LIMIT, but police can still fine you for reckless driving.

So as you see, no matter where you are, the sneaky cameras ruin your vibe!

Like this morning, I was just driving along, at 60Kphfortunately, and there it was, a SNEAKY CAMERA and not a traffic cop to be seen near it… Where was he, behind the bushes sitting in his car! What a KNOB! Remember who’s paying you buddy, the tax payer i.e. US, so on a technicality, WE F**KING OWN YOU! Now at least sit out in the cold at your camera!

9 times out of 10 times they are hidden! Wearing black or their shitty blue outfits, up against a bush or even behind it, while the camera in sitting visible (as that is the rule). A black camera, that is not higher than 2ft off the ground against the backdrop of a bush… GEE WHY THE HELL DIDN’T I SEE THAT!
They hide because they sneaky and the government are GREEDY! I for one am sick of it!

While there are technologies such as Road Angel GPS systems, radar detectors and jammers that have where cameras are and warn you or jam them (which I may add is illegal) they don’t always have up to date places of mobile speed cameras, aka THE SNEAKY CAMERAS!

So, we are compiling a list of all the places that we see and know that traffic cops sit, so that we can name and shame those spots, as well as save YOU hundreds or thousands of YOUR South African Rands in fines.
So this is what we are asking of you, the loyal MCBN reader and, I’m sure, hater of traffic fines and SNEAKY LITTLE TRAFFIC COPS, to email us or post comments on this post, of where you know and have seen traffic cops with their cameras sitting, sorry sorry, I mean hiding!

IF YOU CAN SEND IN A PICTURE OF THE PLACE TOO WITH THEM HIDING OR EVEN NOT, THAT’LL BE GREAT!

Hopefully by the end of next week we will have a decent list and we will post it for you all to see, and will keep updating it as we see and hear of places.

On top of that, we think that all these SNEAKY CAMERAS should have the traffic cop sitting right at them, wearing a high visibility jacket, afterall, it’s dangerous not being able to see you and surely their must be a law as to what you need to wear when you just sitting on the side of a road or highway whilst working? (Lawyers, feel free to jump in here). When you see people doing car counting or statistical work they have high visibility jackets on, so shouldnt you?
You not exactly out hunting deer! Well i guess you out hunting us, but we not animals and we pay you remember!

The 2 gorgeous cars allegedly owned by Al-Thani royal family from Qatar decided that they would, and hey presto… CLAMP!
The cars in question a Koenigsegg CCXR and a Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4 SuperVeloce.
Both were clamped by a parking warden for being illegally parked.  It is not known what was the unclamping fee of each car, but I have been clamped there before and its around £200! Shame how they going to eat!!!

That said about the colour issue, the baby blue colour has been attributed to Ana Al-Thani, an oil baron from the emirate.  Al-Thani’s collection also includes a one-off Pagani Zonda Uno in the color tone, amongst many others.

Shame they struggling….

Just yesterday I got sent some pics of the brand new Mercedes-Benz SLS gullwing, which has just arrived at Merc Century City in Cape Town. What do you guys and girls think?

Something that you could actually see yourself driving? Or have they just gone and messed up the perfectly classic and beautiful lines of the old 300 SL gullwing??

With a 6.3 litre front mid engine pushing out 420kw and 650Nm of torque, the 7 speed AMG box gets this little guy from 0-100 in a measly 3.8 seconds and will continue to push you back into your chair all the way up to the electronically limited top speed of 317km/h… I could definately do with one of these even though it IS a Mercedes!

It seems like BMW aren’t holding anything back with this bad boy. I give you the: BMW GT M1

The spectators will vote for the most unique vehicle 1st, 2nd and 3rd. In voting spectators will also stand a chance of winning spot prizes at the prize giving at +-5.30pm.

DYNO COMPETITION: Killarney’s first ever dyno competition will happen at the Ferroli dyno located near the subway from 10am till 4pm. Entry will be R100 per vehicle with prizes up for grabs in the following 4 class’s:

Both dyno’s will run with one reserved for cars above 300kw with its own trophy.

Next I hop into the Type R and hit the engine start button- it roars into life and then settles down to an agitated hum that only a fan of these cars could live with.

I arrive at the secret location and meet up with my informant *Pablo. He is a veteran of the Cape Town streetracing scene and has changed cars more than I care to mention. The place is packed with what looks like at least 100 cars in more lumo colours than you would find in Elton John’s clothes wardrobe. There are cars drifting and doing donuts in the parking lot, music is banging from the custom built sound systems in the boots of sooped up cars and the smell of burnt tyres and clutch lingers in the air.

There are 3 lanes that run past the venue’s parking lot in both directions and everyone is gathered on the side of the road watching the races go down over the quarter mile strip. Pablo and I join them and the trash talking starts almost immediately… man these guys really do take this WAY too seriously. Shit… its cold I break out into a shiver- Pablo smiles and says its better for the racing, cold clean air means faster runs… hmm I see. I check a few races go down: AUDI RS4 vs BMW 335i… Audi takes it by a whisker. SEAT Leon vs BMW E46 M3- easy win for the Beemer right? WRONG. This SEAT is harder than nails and it takes the win by what looks like a car and a bit.

Its not long before someone driving a Opel Corsa OPC comes up to me asking if I’d like a piece of the action. Being the good investigative reporter that I am, I oblige. We pull up to the line and I’m slightly nervous to say the least… My palms are sweaty and I’m gripping the steering wheel tighter than I would Adriana Lima’s hips if I ever had the chance to dance with her. We both rev up our cars much to the delight of all the spectators. 1st Hoot … 2nd hoot, I tense up… 3rd hoot, we both floor it.

1st Gear-
We both get good traction off the line and are head to head.
2nd Gear-
I edge a fender ahead
3rd Gear-
I have the OPC by half a car
4th Gear-
I am about a car and a half ahead and then we both tap off and brake hard for the robots.

Man that was awesome!!! I’m filled with adrenaline and grinning like Cheshire cat- totally stoked with my win. As I pull back into the parking lot the cops arrive and its like a scene straight out of the first Fast and Furious movie that I remember. Everyone is rushing to their cars and making a hasty exit to avoid any fines and impounding of cars. Pablo calls me to inform me that we’re on to the next venue- streetracers really are a resilient bunch never keen to let the cops spoil the fun for long.

We arrive at secret location 2 for the night and the racing is already going off the hook. You would never believe how many guys and girls do this as a fun night out in Cape Town. A bit of time passes and the cops arrive again to spoil the fun, only this time they’re in the much faster highway patrol Golf 5 GTIs and they bust this one guy mid race.

This chop has the utmost confidence in his car and decides that it’s a good idea to try and outrun the popo. He switches off his lights in attempt to hide his number plate (which I think was fairly daft in the 1st place considering that the cops were right behind him anyways).

1st Gear-
The dude is ahead by a car, popo got a bit bogged down on the line
2nd Gear-
The guy opens up another half a car on the police, by this stage their lights and sirens are on
3rd Gear-
The police GTI pulls level.
4th Gear-
Jail… The GTI pulls past the guy and stops him with quite an impressive tactical manoeuvre.

Right… its 2:30 the cops are not in a very forgiving mood after the chase and I think its time to get the hell out of here.

From this whole experience I learnt why the culture of streetracing is so big in Cape Town- its bucket loads of fun on a night when most of us would just end up watching episodes of Ugly Betty saved on the PVR.

I also learnt that if you are going to try and outrun the police, make damn sure you are driving a spastically fast car…
