Cape Town radio personality killed in accident

This weekend saw a local radio and TV personality, Az Abrahams tragically killed in an accident on the N1 near Bellville in on Saturday. Az Abrahams was best known as a DJ at Heart 104.9 FM on Friday and Saturday nights and for his roles in the South African produced movies “Confessions of a Gambler” and “More than Just a Game”.
Officials have reported that Abrahams was travelling in the direction of the city when his car collided with a concrete barrier, causing the car to overturn and roll.
On arrival at the accident scene, Police discovered Abrahams’ body which had been flung out of the car and he was declared dead on the scene.
SAP’s November Filander says a case of culpable homicide has been opened.
“On the scene, they found a BMW, not far from the vehicle was a person. Information later revealed that it was Mr. Abrahams. The circumstances will be investigated,” he explained.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, in accordance with Muslim rites.
Az Abrahams grew up in Fairways and went to school in Lansdowne. Despite living life in the public eye, he was very much a family man. In a recent interview he had this to say- “Every time I go on air, my challenge is to make a difference in one person’s life by striking a chord that helps them to feel proud of who they are”.
