Part of what we enjoy so much here at MyCityByNight is listening to all the music we get sent on a daily basis and discovering new artist gems every now and then. One such gem is Ashton Fox, an electro producer from Cape Town, now living and studying in the UK.
Ashton released his first EP last year which got to #36 on the beatport electro top 100 chart. Now, he’s back with a brand new EP/mini album (it’s 7 tracks) with Australian label, Shabang Records. Let me tell you one thing… this whole EP is banging, with literally each track bringing a different electro sound to the fore (they’re not ALL complete balls to the wall slammers). Wicked basslines, cheeky riffs and hoovers- all from a Saffa! Give it a listen… in my opinion, worth checking out on Beatport
Ashton started experiencing music early in life when, at the age of 5 he started learning to play the violin. The guitar and piano followed soon after with Ashton first writing songs for guitar at the age of 10. His first radio encounter came in 2005 when, at the age of 13, Ashton was featured on Classic Fm. However, Ashton’s music interests soon became focused on the mainstream, and he dedicated his time to writing rock songs. After playing in numerous bands at venues such as Tempos, Back 2 Basix, Tanz Café and Emperors Palace, Ashton decided to pursue electronic music by himself. In 2010 he started dabbling in production spending a lot of time with MPI Project and Justin Vee. It was alongside Justin Vee that Ashton got to open for Basement Jaxx when they performed in Johannesburg.
He started taking production seriously in 2011, pursuing electro house and releasing his first EP (Silverside EP) in August 2011 on Shabang Records with the track ‘Silverside’ reaching #36 in the Beatport Electro House top 100.
His latest EP, the Far Away EP has just released on all major digital music stores (Itunes, Beatport, Amazon, Trackitdown, Djtunes etc)
